64-bit Windows
Microsoft has developed a type of software (WOW64) built into Windows that is designed to
allow 32-bit programs to run on a 64-bit operating system. What is the real difference between
32 and 64-bit Windows? The 64-bit Windows can run many more programs at once in a faster
and efficient pace.
Generally, Client Track will run without any problems in 64-bit editions of Windows. However,
if, in the rare case, you do encounter a problem relating specifically to the 64-bit emulator,
you must contact Microsoft to help answer any of your questions because we do not directly
support 64-bit Windows. We will, of course, support and answer any questions relating to
Client Track itself when running in 64-bit operating systems.
What is WOW64?
WOW64 is an x86 emulator of Windows that is capable of running 32-bit applications and is
included on all 64-bit versions of Windows (Windows 2000 Limited Edition, Windows XP
Professional x64 Edition, Windows Server 2003, 64-bit versions of Windows Vista and Windows
Server 2008). W0W64 is designed to take care of all the differences between 32-bit Windows
and 64-bit Windows, particularly involving structural changes to Windows itself.
The 64-bit Windows isolates 32-bit applications from 64-bit applications which includes
preventing file and registry collisions. Console, GUI, and service applications are supported.
the 64-bit operating system provides interoperability across the 32/64 boundary for scenarios
such as cut and paste and COM.
However, the 32-bit processes cannot load 64-bit DLLs for execution, and 64-bit processes
cannot load 32-bit DLLs for execution. This restriction does not apply to DLLs loaded as
data files or image resource files.
